Walking: 7Up 🧭

Welcome to the 7 Up Walking Group which, as the name implies, provides walks of any distance over 7 miles.

The walks will be on the 4th Wednesday of every month and details of these walks will be posted on the programme here, along with the contact number of the walk leader.

All walks will be circular unless otherwise stated. Walkers should wear footwear and clothing suitable to the terrain and weather conditions. Food and drink and a sit mat are also advisable.

Walkers are reminded that they attend walks in this programme at their own risk, and that they are responsible for their own safety.

If you would like to lead a walk during the next year, or for any other information, please get in touch.

Programme 2026

25 February

7 Mile Circular Walk from Golden Acre Park

Category - Moderate

Our walk starts from the main Golden Acre Car Park on Otley Road.

Please arrive at MASSC for car share in time to leave at 10:00. As you probably know, there are now car parking charges at the car park so an extra benefit to car sharing!

We will start our walk at 10:30, leaving the Park at the Arthington Road exit and then walking up Eccup Moor Road to Rookery Farm where we will turn left on to the Dales Way.

When we meet Bank Top Lane we turn left and follow this path to Arthington Road, which we cross and follow paths to reach Breary Marsh, then a teeny bit of Leeds Country Way to Pauls Pond which we will go round - lots of interesting bird life on the Pond at the moment - before heading back into the Park and to a very welcome refreshment break at the end at the Café.

The walk is undulating, stylish and in places muddy. Please wear walking clothes and footwear appropriate to the weather of the day.

I would suggest strong footwear and poles if you use them.

Please bring refreshments and a sitmat for our halfway break.

It would be helpful if you would let us know if you are going to MASSC for car share.

25 March

8.5 Mile Circular Walk from Askwith Village

Our walk starts from Askwith Village Hall and explores some of the higher ground between the Rivers Wharfe and the Washburn.

Please meet at MASSC for car share in time to leave at 09:45.

Starting from Askwith Village, it descends first to Weston Church then visits the village of Clifton and its interesting old farms and cottages, passes through the area known as Dob Park that overlooks the Washburn Valley and skirting the edge of Askwith Moor, returns along a delightful track to Askwith.

The terrain is undulating climbing 625 feet (190m) mostly on the gradual rise to Clifton and Dob Park.

Please bring warm layers and a hat as it can be exposed on the top path.

Also, as the public house in Askwith does not open on Wednesday, the walk will include both a coffee and lunch stop. The nearest cafés are in Otley, a possibility after the walk.

There is roadside parking in the centre of Askwith.

We will meet outside Askwith Village Hall, Askwith Lane, LS21 2JB.

The walk will commence at 10:30. The Village Hall Car Park sometimes has space, but staff at the school tend to park there.

It would be helpful if you would let us know if you are going to MASSC for car share.
